I did something so dangerously stupid I should have my Oppo card torn up.

Rushed out of the house, into my car, and barely went down the block when I realized I forgot something and had to turn around. Rather than do a U-turn I decided I had enough time after all to just completely round the block back to my house. So took a left turn onto a four-lane boulevard that bisects my neighborhood to start circling back. Then I saw an oncoming truck in the opposite direction and something inside my head said, wait, this isn't right.

It turns out that for some boneheaded reason I cut the turn so tight the double-yellow line that I assumed was to my left was actually on my right. Yeah. That truck wasn't exactly headed straight at me (he was in the left lane, I was on the right but still on the wrong side of the road) but I must've gave him a good scare or made him think I was drunk. Needless to say I went back to the correct side of the double-yellow double-quick.

Yeah. That was pretty boneheaded and I've got no excuse or explanation other than pay better attention next time.

I saw an elderly gentleman do that this week. I guess he didn't see the median. Luckliy it was during rush hour so he didn't get very far (nor up to much speed) before he realized his mistake. Had it been at night things could of gone real bad.

Yesterday I was in a completely unfamiliar part of town and I came up on an intersection where the road changed from a two-way into a one way in the opposite direction I was going. There was no oncoming traffic and no "do not enter" signs, so I didn't notice until I was almost completely through the intersection. It was a last second realization that the paint markings were wrong that stopped me. Unfortunately I didn't have enough space to slow down enough to make the right turn (cross street was one way as well). So I braked hard, then once slowed enough I turned right to go up the sidewalk ramp at the corner, and popped back down off the curb onto the cross street about 30 feet down the road. I felt like the most incompetent driver in the world.

I have many tales of dumber things I've done. No one was hurt. You'll be fine.

When I was 16 my buddy and I were driving around at night. Typical cruising around with nothing to do. I made a left out of a strip mall parking lot only to realize there was a cement median in the road after I had already committed to making the turn. Well fuck. I gunned it towards oncoming traffic in order to make it to the break it the media. As my friend screamed obscenities at me.
